Engraved Rings

Engraved rings turn a simple band into something personal: a pair of names across the front, a family engraved around a row of birthstones, or a few words hidden on the inside of the band. Every engraved ring in this collection is made to order with the text you enter at checkout, so ring engraving is part of how the piece is made rather than an extra step afterward.

Most designs here are family and couples rings that combine engraved names with simulated birthstones, alongside heart rings and a tree of life ring.

What ring engraving can say

Ring engraving has room for only a few characters, which is exactly why it feels meaningful: you have to choose what matters most. Most rings in this collection are built around names, the names of your children on a mother's ring or two names on a couples ring. Other people prefer a date, a pair of initials or a short phrase that only the wearer will understand. If you are torn between options, read the engraving aloud. If it sounds right in one breath, it will usually look right on the band.

Outside or inside: where the engraving goes

Engraved rings can carry their message in two places. The product page of each design shows where its engraving goes.

Engraving position What it looks like Best for
On the outside of the band Names or words sit on the visible surface of the band or on a charm, where everyone can read them Family rings, mother's rings, couples rings
On the inside of the band A name, date or message is hidden against the skin and only the wearer knows it is there Private messages, promise rings, anniversaries

Some designs, such as the heart birthstone ring with names and the tree of life ring, add an inside engraving to the stones on the outside.

Engraved rings with birthstones and names

The largest group of engravable rings here pairs each engraved name with a birthstone. A two-name ring can stand for a couple or for a mother and one child, and other designs carry three, four or more names for a whole family. You will find open heart rings that stack nicely, heart knot rings, a dual heart ring and a tree of life ring set with birthstones. Many of these designs use simulated birthstones in the color of each month, so every name can sit next to the right stone; the stone details are listed on each product page. For a wider choice of stone settings, see our Personalized Birthstone Rings.

Engraved rings for Mom and for couples

An engraved family ring is one of the most personal gifts you can give a mother or grandmother, because it holds every child's name in one place. Many of the rings here are designed with Mother's Day and birthdays in mind; our Personalized Rings for Mom collection gathers more of them. For couples, a ring engraved with two names works as a promise ring, an anniversary gift or simply a way to wear your partner's name every day. If a promise is the main idea, browse our Promise Rings as well.

Choosing a ring that can be engraved well

Engraving reads best when the letters have enough space, so keep names short where you can and use nicknames for very long names. Check the product page for the maximum length per name and the fonts available. Materials vary by design, and the exact metal of each ring is listed on its product page. Size matters more than usual, because an engraved ring cannot simply be swapped for another size off the shelf. Measure a ring that already fits the same finger, and pick the size option shown on the product page.

Engraved rings or name rings?

Both collections share many designs, because most of our name rings are engraved too. Engraved rings is the wider group: it covers every ring you can personalize with text, from family rings with several names to couples rings and heart designs. Our Name Rings collection is the narrower choice, focused on rings built around two engraved names, each paired with a birthstone, which makes it a quick place to start if you are shopping for a couple or a mother and child.

Caring for an engraved ring

Take your ring off before showering, swimming, cleaning or working out, and keep it away from perfume, lotion and household chemicals. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth to keep the engraving clear, and store it separately so the band does not get scratched by other jewelry. If your ring is sterling silver, it can darken over time; a gentle polishing cloth brings back the shine without wearing down the letters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose what is engraved on the ring?

On personalized designs, yes. You type the names or text at checkout, and the ring is engraved exactly as entered, so please check spelling and capitals carefully.

Are the birthstones real gemstones?

Designs described with simulated birthstones use simulated stones in the color of each birth month, not natural gemstones. The stone type for every ring is stated on its product page.

How long does an engraved ring take?

Each engraved ring is made after you order it. Current production and delivery times are on our Delivery & Shipping page.

Can I return or exchange an engraved ring?

Personalized rings are made for you, so different rules apply than for standard items. Our return and exchange policy explains what applies to engraved pieces, including quality issues.
