Heart Lockets

A heart locket is a small heart-shaped case that opens on a hinge to hold the photos of the people you love. Close it, and it looks like a simple heart pendant; open it, and the faces are right there. At IfShe, you upload your photos when you order, and our workshop prints them to size and fits them inside your heart locket before it ships.

This collection brings together heart locket necklaces with carved, polished or mother-of-pearl fronts, plus heart lockets made to be worn on the wrist or the finger: a locket bracelet, an opening bangle with angel wings and a heart photo locket ring.

Heart photo lockets: a heart locket with picture inside

Every design on this page is a heart photo locket, which means the heart locket with picture inside is the whole point. Most of the necklaces hold two photos, one on each side of the opened heart, so you can pair a parent with a child, a couple on their wedding day and the same couple years later, or two pets who grew up together. A few designs, such as the locket bracelet with a birthstone, can be ordered with one or two pictures. Because the photos are printed and fitted by us, the locket arrives ready to wear; there is nothing to cut or glue at home.

Choose clear photos with faces close to the camera. A heart shape trims the corners of every picture, so keep the important part of the image in the center and leave a little space around heads.

Heart locket necklace designs

Heart locket necklaces differ mostly in what the front of the heart looks like. This overview shows the main looks in the collection.

Front of the heart Character Wears well with
Mother of pearl or abalone shell Soft shimmer, with the shell on the front or the back of the locket Light tops, summer outfits, bridal looks
Carved flowers or roses in relief Vintage feel, with detail you can trace with a fingertip Everyday wear, high necklines
Love script A handwritten-style word across the heart Anniversaries, Valentine's gifts
Polished or sculptural heart Clean, modern lines, including an asymmetric heart Layering with fine chains
Tree of life heart A tree motif on the heart, symbolizing family roots Family and memorial gifts

Colors include silver and gold-tone, depending on the design. Materials vary as well, from stainless steel to sterling silver, so check each product page for the material and chain length.

Heart lockets beyond the necklace

Not everyone wears a necklace every day, so this collection also includes heart lockets in other forms. The heart locket bracelet sits on a gold-tone watch-band style chain, and a second bracelet pairs a small heart photo locket with a birthstone on a dainty chain. The heart photo bangle opens like a cuff and carries angel wings, which makes it a gentle memorial piece. The heart photo locket ring is adjustable, adds a birthstone and can be engraved with a name. All of them work the same way as a locket necklace: the picture sits inside the heart and stays hidden until you open it.

Heart lockets with engraving

Several heart lockets can carry words as well as photos. The floral heart locket can be ordered with a custom engraving on the back, and the heart photo locket ring is engraved with a name. A short engraving such as a name, an initial or a date adds a second layer of meaning that stays readable even when the locket is closed. If engraving matters more to you than the heart shape, our Engraved Lockets collection includes oval, round, book-shaped and dog tag lockets as well.

A heart locket as a memorial or keepsake

Heart lockets have long been used to keep someone close who is no longer here, and they still serve that purpose well. A photo of a grandparent, a parent or a much-loved pet stays private inside the heart, and opening the locket becomes a small, quiet ritual. Lockets also make good keepsakes for happy milestones: a first baby photo for a new mom, or a wedding picture for a first anniversary. If you would rather see the photo without opening anything, our Heart Necklaces with Picture include heart pendants with a photo hidden in a crystal that you view against the light.

Caring for your heart locket

Keep the locket closed when you are not looking at the photos, and take it off before showering, swimming or applying lotion and perfume, since moisture is the main enemy of printed photos. Open the hinge gently rather than prying at the edge, and wipe the outside with a soft, dry cloth. Store the locket on its own so the front of the heart does not get scratched.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the photos in my heart locket later?

The photos are printed and placed in the locket by our workshop from the images you upload when you order. They are not designed to be swapped out at home, so take your time choosing the pictures.

Which photos work best in a heart locket?

Bright, sharp photos with one or two faces work best. Group shots and photos with lots of background become very small inside a heart.

How long does it take to receive a heart locket?

Each locket is made after you order. Current production and delivery times are listed on our Delivery & Shipping page.

Can I return a heart locket with my photos?

Lockets with your own photos are personalized items. Our return and exchange policy explains what applies, including quality issues. For lockets in other shapes, browse our Photo Locket Necklaces.
